Oh YourDoulaBag, where were you all these years!!!
In 1963, the Birth Ball was known as the "Swiss Ball" used in treatment programs for newborns and infants. Don't get me wrong, It was a wonderful invention! However, the discovery of a Birth Ball cover along with the Ball when I started as a Doula 15 years ago, would have made assisting in birth less of a dynamic balancing act!
I recall the many times I slung my Doula bag over one shoulder haphazardly carrying a few pillows under an arm, my client’s hospital bag on my other arm, while precariously balancing my birth ball wherever it would fit. All while serving as an anchor for my client in active labour. "Don't let the ball go!" That was the thought that haunted me as we made our way to the delivery ward. In that very moment, assisting my client became less about calming her anxiety and stress and instead shifted my focus to not dropping the ball! What if that ball had rolled down the hall and knocked someone over. Thankfully, this is no longer a worry of mine, since I invested in a Ball cover from YourDoulaBag.
